democracy through technology

Come and work with us

Halarose is an integral part of the electoral industry’s welcoming community. It’s an industry built on freedom, equality, justice and representation, but grounded in the continual need to administer these ‘pillars of democracy’.

As a company, we have experienced consistent growth for more than a decade and are continuing to expand. With a mixture of talented and bright individuals from different backgrounds (highly experienced, highly specialist, local government, private sector, graduates and interns) at Halarose, it is the diversity of the team that creates the innovation we offer to the electoral industry.

Halarose is a company with an upbeat, inspiring environment that allows you to make a difference to customers and deliver the machinery of democracy.

What it's like?

The Halarose office brings together like-minded, ambitious people from different backgrounds who strive to develop themselves.
We have an open plan office and casual dress code, encouraging open discussions, sharing of knowledge and creativity to flow.

First thing it’s often about making the coffee, unless it’s Friday and then it becomes about grabbing a slice of homemade cake before it’s all gone.

The office is situated in an area of natural beauty with cycle and walking routes close by. Lunchtime in the summer is about being outside in the fresh air, while in the winter it becomes all about table football.

As a company, we socialise regularly – ensuring we work hard and play hard!

We strive to be a great place to work, creating results together and bringing great value to our customers – and this comes down to our people!

About our company

Halarose is an established supplier of electoral software to local authorities in Great Britain. One quarter of voters in the UK are registered to vote with local authorities that use Halarose software.

We are a growing software house with great ambitions. Our mission is to transform democracy through pioneering and innovative software and services. To achieve our mission, we believe in investing in our people, actively immersing ourselves with our customers, and we operate in a dynamic team environment where everyone contributes and our best ideas are brought to fruition fast.

Our offices are located in a serene woodland area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in South Oxfordshire, within 30 minutes’ drive of both Oxford and Reading.

We are looking for a talented graduate with a passion for creating great software, to work within the Quality Assurance Team to join us in our mission.

You will have the opportunity to carry out design, analytical work, manual testing and be responsible for test automation in specific areas and internal projects.  Through developing your knowledge and skills you will be able to influence better software design, promote proper engineering practice, develop bug prevention strategies, and affect other advanced quality concepts across our products.

The QA team works alongside the Development and Support teams in order to create results and bring great value to our customers.  We are looking for people who are proactive and have entrepreneurial spirit, and you will be given as much responsibility as you can take on and have direct influence in all levels of decision-making.

Depending on your aspirations and the business needs, after a minimum of 2 years learning about our software, our domain, and gaining qualifications and experience in quality assurance, you may then have the opportunity to move into the development team as a programmer, become a business analyst, or advance yourself within the Quality Assurance team into a more senior role. This gives you a flexible career path within the business with the chance to continue learning and developing skills whilst making a very real impact.

This is a challenging and stimulating role operating in an agile environment using a range of Microsoft technologies. You will have the significant personal impact that comes with a small, close-knit team where we don’t wear suits, have very little of the red-tape you may find in a larger organisation, and you may even see your own ideas realised very quickly. If you feel you are up to the job we would be delighted to hear from you!

Your experience and skills

We are looking for candidates with a passion and enthusiasm for software, problem solving and personal development.  To be part of our great team, you should:

  • Have a passion for software and technology
  • Have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Thrive working collaboratively as part of a team
  • Have outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Be good at making decisions rationally
  • Have a logical mind and excellent problem-solving skills
  • Be driven and ambitious
  • Have a desire to create an impact
  • Strive for continuous self-improvement through reflection and introspection
  • Have an eye for design
  • Have a degree from a top-tier university

In return we will offer you a highly competitive salary. Other benefits, such as a contributory pension scheme and gym membership, are available as standard to all employees.

Application Process

Please email with your CV and covering letter.  Closing date for applications is 31st July 2017.  Please Note: Regrettably we are not able to respond to every application individually. If you have not heard back from us within 10 days of the closing date, please assume your application for this role has been unsuccessful.

We work in an industry where we have access to personal and sensitive data, so successful applicants will need to satisfy the BPSS guidelines (Baseline Personnel Security Standards) which consists of the receipt of satisfactory references covering the last 3 years of employment; an identity check; verification of eligibility to work in the UK; and a Basic Disclosure Check.  This is in order to help us make safer recruitment decisions and prevent unsuitable people from working with access to personal and sensitive data.
